BIG announcement from Rachel Buckley Weddings! Meet our newest team member, Mark Sperry!

I am BEYOND thrilled to introduce you to our new associate photographer, Mark! This guy right here is a fiercely talented individual who is passionate about photography, creating authentic imagery, and is also the owner of Northeast Photographic, a premier film lab here in Portland, Maine.

Mark and I first bonded over the fact that we both have Midwestern roots (bring on the beer brats!,) both had to "reboot" our lives as Maine transplants and we both have a love for photography that goes well beyond just weddings. We knew early on with photography that "this is it!" and the camera, and how we see through it, naturally became our 7th sense.

We have 20 years experience between the two of us and have photographed over 350 weddings. We still thrive on the artistic challenges a wedding day brings with it but feel confident in saying you'd be hard-pressed to find a scenario that would surprise us or a situation that we haven't been in before. When I heard Mark moved to Maine, after years of associate shooting in NYC, I knew I wanted to add him to the team asap. To say that I'm over the moon to have Mark on board is an understatement. Working with him over the last year has been a dream.

Mark's favorite moments on the wedding day occur shortly after he arrives and before the day really gets rolling with events. He loves the quiet moments that unfold between a bride and the mother prior to the dress being put on or that last "cheers to the groom" before he leaves his groomsmen to head down the aisle. Mark is excellent at seeking out the most beautiful spots for portraits, is incredible at catching the details and brings this calming energy to the day. Being trained in film, he is very intentional in how he works. Everything is exactly as it should be in each and every frame. Honestly, if he could, he'd be shooting primarily with his 1950's Rolleiflex camera at every wedding. It is by far his favorite item in the camera bag. I am thrilled to announce that with the addition of Mark, Rachel Buckley Weddings is officially able to offer hybrid photography collections. The best of both photography worlds on your wedding day - digital and film!

When I was putting together this post I asked Mark a bunch of silly, just-for-fun, non-photography related questions:

Morning person or Night person?   Night.

Cholula or Siracha?   Cholula.

Spotify or Podcast?   Podcast.

Airplane or Road Trip?   Road Trip.

Ocean or Mountains?   Ocean AND Mountains.

These totally made me smile because same, same, same, same, same. I am exactly 100% the same. Yet another reminder of why we work so well together. ;) My favorite answer, however, was this:

If you could live anywhere, truly ANYWHERE, in the world where would it be?   RIGHT HERE!

Yaasss! I mean, how many people can say that!? What a wonderful position to be in! As someone who could not love this state and region more I whole-heartedly agree with him. We both simply can not get enough of this magical place called Maine!

I am so excited to have him on the team, capturing life's most beautiful moments in the most beautiful places and in the most beautiful way possible! To see more of Mark's work (and mine too, of course) head on over to Instagram here and be sure to keep an eye out as we have lots of new blogs headed your way soon!

Rachel Buckley Weddings Featured in Maine Magazine . Boothbay Harbor, Maine

So thrilled to find my images gracing the pages of Maine Magazine this year. For Rachel Buckley Weddings to be chosen as one of only seven photographers featured is such an honor! I also have to say that with the digital landscape that is photography these days it is a rare occasion I get to see my work in print. It seems a simple thing but truly it is so enjoyable to be able to reach out and touch something tangible. To all my former and future couples know that save the dates and holiday cards are always welcome in our home. :)

Rachel Buckley Weddings Featured on Grey Likes Weddings . Hidden Pond, Maine

Cheers to Grey Likes Weddings for featuring this very sweet and intimate wedding today! This was actually my first wedding of the 2017 season and it holds such a special place in my heart for a couple reasons. I truly enjoyed my time with Leah and Alex. They have this easiness about them, this energy that is so in sync it is hard not to want to be around them. Their friends and family were so warm and welcoming. It was early enough in the season I could still wear my favorite blazer while photographing them (okay, that seems minor but if you shoot in August you know it isn't!) It was also my first collaboration with (and the beginning of a fantastic friendship) with Heidi of SHE Luxe Weddings and she put together such an incredibly talented team of vendors who rounded out such an incredible vision. And here is the real kicker for me personally. This was not only my first wedding of the 2017 season BUT this was also the first wedding of my first fully booked season since moving to Maine!

If you don't know my story, I moved to Maine 4 years ago after having run Rachel Buckley Weddings out of the Midwest for 6 years. I sort of did this on a whim, mustered up a little faith and while it is a story for another time, took a risk on love (omg, how cheesy am I?!) I was not prepared to start the business over and I found myself back on the ground floor looking up that looongggg flight of stairs all us entrepreneurs are much too familiar with. So after many trials and errors, successes and failures I finally started to make progress climbing that darn staircase and by the end of 2016 I had a fully booked 2017 season. I am sort of tearing up as I write that. Do you know that overwhelming sense of excitement, accomplishment and pride you get after you hustled so hard and spent more nights than you count suffocating in self-doubt and insecurity? Yeah. It is indescribable. So this brings me back to Leah and Alex. Thank you a million times over for welcoming me into your lives! You are unforgettable!

And a huge thank you goes out to Grey Likes Weddings for featuring Rachel Buckley Weddings! Today was a wonderful reminder that the ground floor is something I am now looking down on instead of something I am looking up from.

Rachel Buckley Weddings Featured in Bride's Magazine . Emily and Jon Favreau's Maine Wedding

Brides Magazine featured one of my weddings! And not just any wedding, the Favreau wedding! I can't express enough my gratitude to Emily and Jon for trusting me with their memories. The day was beyond words! As Jon is President Barack Obama's former speechwriter and the co-host of Pod Save America (before you ask, YES! Yes I am a friend of the pod) I find it apropos to see this featured on July 4th.

I have so much more I want to share about this incredible wedding day and I promise to do so in the near, non-holiday I am sitting in Wisconsin celebrating family and barely have access to internet, future. For now...Congratulations to the Favreau's! I am so honored that you chose me to capture this moment in time. Looking back I of course wish now I would have stayed longer for the after party. ;)

And thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to Brides for the fantastic publication! I never imagined I would see my images show up under your masthead. Eek! I mean, I know I can't be the only 7 year old child out there who built their dream wedding from the pages of your magazine, right? Back then of course it was all enormous puffy sleeves, taffeta everything and rad bangs meet Aqua Net hairdos. I think my dream has changed slightly since then. ;)

Rachel Buckley Weddings Featured in Style Me Pretty . Rye, New Hampshire

Now this, this is a big deal for me. Yesterday I woke up to find friends and family sharing this Style Me Pretty feature all over the social media universe. I clicked the link and immediately began my celebratory and now standard Beyonce hair-flip/failed attempt booty dance. This styled shoot was a beautiful collaboration between myself and event designer and stylist Leander Matos Weddings who pulled together this incredible team of amazingly talented wedding professionals.

So why is this a big deal for me? Uh, first of all it is Style Me Pretty!!! Holla! (yes, I just said holla) Second of all, I have been in business for 10 years. 7 years based out of the Midwest (Go Packers!) where I had established a solid client base, strong word of mouth referrals, which is code for no marketing plan what so ever, and if I am being really honest a business that, at that point, basically ran itself. I had my tribe of people that showed up nearly everyday to participate in my brand. Year 7 brought with it my own personal adventures and an unexpected love story of my own which resulted in a "throw caution to the wind" relocation to Maine. *insert Beyonce hair-flip part two because Maine, Maine...I am head over heels for it!

So began the next chapter in my life and a new market for my business. Yikes! I could not have foreseen the challenges that lay before me in an industry that has changed so drastically since my first foray in 2006. An industry that is now incredibly oversaturated with photographers and, quite frankly, a profession and craft that is no longer valued the way it once was. It has been extremely challenging and enormously character building for me to start again. To find myself at the bottom looking up once more, missing the name recognition that in hindsight I so sorely took for granted. But, and there is always a but for this is not a "woes me, woes me" post, I have been so lucky in friendships, wedding professionals and otherwise, who believe in me, who support me and, who lend an ear when I want to scream out, "What did I do to my life!?" And, as this shoot proves, who are also willing to collaborate with me. I am so grateful.

So, whew, long story short (er, not so short) I have never participated in a styled shoot before. It was and is such a pleasure to wake up one morning and find that my first one has been featured on SMP. I am over the moon!

Thank you to all the magical people listed below, you are incredible!
