Frequently Asked Questions
How would you describe your style?
We are natural light specialists and as a result our style is very bright and airy. Having been trained in film photography we are pretty true to the craft. We are not trend chasers. We want our images to look natural and to be timeless. We keep backgrounds and lighting techniques simple allowing you, and the relationship you have with each other, to really shine through. We most often hear these words associated with our work: classic, romantic, elegant, effortless and of course joyful!
How do you work on a wedding day?
We are mostly unobtrusive on the wedding day observing the moments and emotions unfolding around us. Most of the images of guests will be candid and journalistic in nature where we are not stopping the action for a quick "smile and say cheese." When it comes to portraits we are more hands on and use guided posing techniques to keep you moving and relaxed in front of the camera. The results are always unique to you and while these are "posed" the images feel very natural and organic. We focus a good amount of energy not only on the human interactions and joyful moments of a wedding day but also in preserving the unique and individualized details you put so much thought into. We will share tips on how to get the most out of your photographs prior to the wedding so the day of you are stress free and already trust you will have beautiful images like you see on the website.
How long have you been doing this?
We have been in business since 2007 and have photographed over 275 weddings. I attended Savannah College of Art and Design and have a BFA in Photography and worked as a commercial photographer for 3 years before making the leap to weddings. Mark also brings a decade's worth of experience in wedding photography with him as well and is the owner an operator of a film processing lab here in Maine.
What is your turn around time?
Images are delivered in an online gallery 4-6 weeks after your event date. You will receive a pin to download images from the gallery immediately to your computer. The online gallery is also a secure shopping cart and you and your guests may order prints, wall displays and digital images directly through the gallery as well. If your collection includes a thumb drive and/or prints you will receive this 4 weeks after the gallery is live. Albums, upon final design approval, are delivered in 8-12 weeks time.
Will the photos be edited?
All images are hand-edited with the signature "Rachel Buckley Weddings" look and we ensure proper exposure, color and contrast. All images ordered through the online gallery, 8x10 or larger, will be fully retouched as well.
How many images can we expect?
How many images depends on things such as how many guests, how many photographers, variation of events, rehearsal dinner coverage, etc. It is a safe bet that you will receive anywhere from 50-100 images per hour.
Do you shoot digital or film?
We primarily photograph digitally. Mark, our associate photographer, also offers a hybrid collection where he photographs both digitally and with film the day of your wedding and/or engagement session.
Do you provide video services?
We currently do not provide video services but we work with many talented videographers throughout New England regularly and are happy to send their names your way. In fact we are happy to help connect you with other vendors all around!
What should we wear/bring to our engagement session?
Once booked with us we will send over a style guide with what to expect and how to plan for your session.
How does the album process work?
Once booked with us we will send a link explaining this process to you and we will get any questions you have answered at that time.
What is required to reserve my date?
To reserve your date we will need to receive the signed event agreement plus a retainer/booking fee. Payments are made in thirds. One third at time of booking, one third 4 months prior to the wedding and one third 7 days before the wedding.
